How I would write a resume to help you stand out from the crowd and get potential employers to know, like and trust you (before the interview).

I believe that my success in job applications is credited to being able to stand out from the crowd using my resume.

As a single mom, with an educational background that is non-traditional, I have had to get creative when building my application packages. I believe that my success in job applications (that I thought were out of my league) is credited to being able to stand out from the crowd using my resume.

The time of writing plain old boring resumes is over. It is time to get creative with your resume. I have seen some pretty boring resumes from people who I know are not boring. So it got me thinking…

So it got me thinking…

So, it got me thinking, how can I help my friends and other people who are amazingly talented and full of incredible personality get noticed for who they are? How can I help people stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs?

By creating a resume that pops.

In order for me to do that, here is what I would need:

First, get personal and tell me your story…write it down, what is your life story…how have you gotten to be who you are right now and where you are right now? Get honest, get real and get personal. Get vulnerable with yourself and realize the great adversity you have overcome in your life, in your work, in your education. How have your experiences shaped you? What have you learned from your experiences? What are you passionate about? What drives you? What irritates you? What lights you up? How would your friends and loved ones describe you? How would your co-workers and bosses describe you? You can do this in writing or as a recorded video.

This is key for building a resume because it helps me create the Cover Letter, which is the essential piece that will help you stand out from the crowd and help potential employers get to know, like and trust you even before inviting you to the interview.

Get honest, get real and get personal.

Second, give me a list of the places you have worked..that are both relevant and irrelevant to the job(s) you are applying for. Tell me about them; what you liked and didn’t like. Share with me what your experiences were like and what you have learned both professionally and personally. What sort of self-awareness grew from your work experiences?

Third, send me a profile photo of yourself that is professional and demonstrates your beautiful light/personality.

What sort of self-awareness grew from your work experiences?

Your chances of being invited to an interview will rise dramatically once you’ve brought life into your application package: Cover Letter and Resume. It shows that you have put effort into your job search and you are proud of the person you are and the experiences you have lived. You will stand out from the crowd.

If you want a template for resume building, I highly recommend using the ones available from Canva because they are more fun and creative. The layouts are great.

You will stand out from the crowd.
